Highlighted Text Generator

Every letter gets a 🟨 on each side, so note becomes 🟨n🟨🟨o🟨🟨t🟨🟨e🟨 and NEW becomes 🟨N🟨🟨E🟨🟨W🟨. The squares between adjacent letters double up, which is what makes the line read as one continuous marker stroke. Yellow is the only color, and the text costs five times its length.

How the Highlighted Text Generator Works

Each letter and digit is wrapped in a pair of U+1F7E8 LARGE YELLOW SQUARE, one before and one after. Not one square per word, and not a background applied to the line — a separate character on each side of each character you typed, from the Geometric Shapes Extended block.

That is why the effect holds up when you paste it. Nothing here is styling: there is no background color, no CSS, no image. It is a row of ordinary characters, so it survives a copy into a field that strips every kind of formatting.

Five Times the Characters, Not Three

This is the number to know before you paste anywhere with a limit, and it is easy to get wrong. Each typed character becomes three code points — 🟨, your letter, 🟨 — which looks like a threefold cost. But the yellow square lives above U+FFFF, so it takes two units in the counters most platforms use. The real multiplier is five.

note is four letters typed, twelve code points, and twenty units counted. A 150-character bio therefore holds about thirty typed characters in this style. Plan for a word or two, not a sentence.

Spaces Survive, Punctuation Stays Outside

Spaces are left exactly as typed, so word boundaries are intact: read this comes out 🟨r🟨🟨e🟨🟨a🟨🟨d🟨 🟨t🟨🟨h🟨🟨i🟨🟨s🟨. Punctuation is left alone too, which means it sits outside the highlight rather than inside it — a, b! (c) gives 🟨a🟨, 🟨b🟨! (🟨c🟨), with the comma, exclamation mark and brackets bare.

Both behaviours are worth designing around. A real highlighter pen would cover the punctuation; this does not, so a heavily punctuated line looks patchy. Short, punctuation-free phrases are what the style is built for.

Can I Change the Highlight Color?

Not for the highlight itself. Every one of the sixty-two keys uses the same 🟨, and there is nothing to customize, because the color is part of the character rather than a setting applied to it. If you need a different color behind your words you need an image editor, not a character swap.

There is a partial answer, though. The ✦ Symbol picker's Square group carries the other large squares as separate characters — red 🟥, orange 🟧, green 🟩, blue 🟦, purple 🟪 and brown 🟫, alongside ⬛ and ⬜. These are special characters in their own right, not settings, so they pass through the generator untouched and you can set one beside the line as a colored marker: 🟥 🟨n🟨🟨o🟨🟨t🟨🟨e🟨. The run stays yellow; the accent does not have to.

How to Use the Highlighter Tool

There is no menu and no setting: you highlight text by typing it, and the squares are placed for you.

Step 1 — type your text. Enter a word or a short phrase. All 52 letters and all ten digits are wrapped; spaces and punctuation pass through.

Step 2 — the squares are generated as you type. The result appears instantly, and automatically: there is nothing to configure and no color to pick.

Step 3 — copy the whole run. The squares and your letters come away together; copying part of a highlighted word leaves an odd square stranded at one end.

Step 4 — check the length before you paste. On this style especially: count on five units per typed character, and test the field before you commit to the wording.

One Toolbar Control Removes Every Highlight

Aa Mix Font is the one to avoid, and it is worth knowing why before you try it. It restyles your selection in the input box, before the squares are added, and this generator only recognises plain A–Z, a–z and 0–9. Style note as Bold and the input becomes 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞, which has no entry here, so it passes straight through and arrives as 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 — bold letters, not one square. All 25 styles do this. Upsidedown is the strange one: it emits a literal u and o, which the generator then highlights, so note lands as 🟨u🟨🟨o🟨ʇǝ — half highlighted, and the wrong letters.

✦ Symbol and ❋ Pattern insert into the input and pass through unwrapped, which is what makes the colored-square trick above possible. ꒰꒱ Wrap and • Separator both act on the finished line, so every square survives them. Of the 57 wrap pairs the line styles suit this best: Box Line gives ╔═══ 🟨n🟨🟨o🟨🟨t🟨🟨e🟨 ═══╝ and Double Line gives ══ 🟨n🟨🟨o🟨🟨t🟨🟨e🟨 ══, a rule above and below a highlighted run.

• Separator is the control that changes the shape rather than the trim. Because spaces are preserved, a multi-word line has a yellow gap in it; of the 23 options, No Space closes that gap and gives 🟨r🟨🟨e🟨🟨a🟨🟨d🟨🟨t🟨🟨h🟨🟨i🟨🟨s🟨 — one unbroken stroke — while Pipe goes the other way with 🟨r🟨🟨e🟨🟨a🟨🟨d🟨 | 🟨t🟨🟨h🟨🟨i🟨🟨s🟨. ⏰ Recent is more useful here than on most styles: once you have picked an accent square it stays one click away under tg-recent-decorations, so the same color marker can front a whole set of labels without hunting for it again. 🖼 Export Image matters more on this style than on any other, because the output is emoji and emoji is exactly what a strict field refuses. It writes PNG, JPEG or WebP at 16–96 px, padding 10–100, scale to 4×, on a transparent, solid or gradient background, with presets sized for a square, a story, a Twitter post and a Facebook post — and the yellow survives the trip intact, at one fixed shade instead of whatever the reader's platform would have drawn.

This Is Not Highlighting in Word, Docs or a PDF

The two things share a verb and work in completely different ways. Highlighting inside a word processor, a slide deck or a PDF reader is a property of the document: you select a span, the application records a color against it, and the underlying characters never change. Turn the highlight off and the text is untouched.

This page changes the characters. There is no property to remove and nothing to toggle — to undo it you delete the squares. So if you arrived here looking for how to highlight, un-highlight, print or extract highlighted text in an application, this is not that tool, and the feature you want belongs to the program you are working in.

It Is Not a Font You Download

Several real typefaces carry Highlight in their family name, and they are a different product again. Those are files you install, and they change how letters are drawn on the machine that has them — send the document to somebody without the file and the effect is gone, because the text underneath never changed.

What this online tool produces needs no download and no install. A font generator of this kind swaps in special characters instead of shipping a file, so the squares travel with the text into any field that accepts them, on any device and any computer, with nothing needed at the other end.

Not an HTML Mark Tag Either

On a web page you would reach for <mark>, and a browser paints a yellow background behind whatever it wraps. That is the right answer when you control the markup, and it is genuinely better: the color is yours to choose, the text stays one character per letter, and a screen reader announces it sensibly.

It only works where you can write HTML. A bio field, a message, a spreadsheet cell, a display name, a video title — none of those accept markup, and that is the gap this style fills. Choose by destination: markup where markup runs, characters where it does not.

Where a Highlighted Line Actually Works

• One word in an Instagram bio, against otherwise plain text — the contrast is the whole point, and it disappears if everything is highlighted.
• Status and availability lines: 🟨O🟨🟨P🟨🟨E🟨🟨N🟨 or 🟨B🟨🟨U🟨🟨S🟨🟨Y🟨 at the top of a profile.
• Section labels in a link page, where a heading has to be found at a glance rather than read.
• Deadline and price flags in short social media posts, where a number needs to be the first thing seen.
• Nicknames and channel names on WhatsApp, Discord or anywhere else that permits emoji in them.

It works against you anywhere the words themselves have to be read comfortably. The doubled squares between letters interrupt every gap, so a highlighted sentence is markedly slower to read than a plain one — which is exactly why it works on a single word and fails on a paragraph.

It Stops the Text Being Findable

A square sits between every pair of letters, so the letters are no longer adjacent and a search for note will not match 🟨n🟨🟨o🟨🟨t🟨🟨e🟨. That applies to a browser find, a site search and a platform's own search box alike. Deleting every 🟨 returns the original wording exactly, which is the fix if you need the words back — but it is a manual job, so keep the plain version of anything you may want to edit later.

There is a second cost that is easy to forget because it is invisible on screen. Each square is a character with a name of its own, LARGE YELLOW SQUARE, and a screen reader has no reason to skip it — so a highlighted word is announced as a string of squares with your letters scattered through it. On a decorative label that is a fair trade. On anything a reader actually needs, put the plain words somewhere too.

Does It Work Everywhere?

The yellow square is a widely supported emoji and renders on current phones, desktops and browsers with nothing to install. Two caveats are worth stating rather than discovering. The exact shade of the color and the corner rounding are the platform's decision, so the same line looks slightly different on an iPhone, on Android and in a desktop browser — the effect survives, the precise look does not.

The second is the harder one: some fields reject emoji outright, and this style is entirely emoji. Where a username or form refuses it, no amount of editing will help, and the image export is the way through.

Is There a Free Online Highlighted Text Generator?

This one, with nothing to install and no account. The swap runs in your browser, your text never leaves your device on the way to the clipboard, and the image export carries no watermark and no size limit. Because the output is plain Unicode text rather than a licensed font file, there is no licence attached to anything you copy.
